Hardy ~ Still Water Plants

Lotus
Lotus have beautiful fragrant blossoms that stand well above the surface of the water as do most of the leaves of mature lotus. Established plants must have at least 2 - 4 inches of water above the soil. They will not do well in agitated water. Fertilize twice monthly during the growing season with fertilizer tablet in soil beside the plant. These plants require at least one full year to become established and usually will not bloom until their second year. When re-potting use regular garden soil, not potting mix. Winter-hardy where pond soil does not freeze solid. Zones 4 - 11

Beautiful, aquatic perennials commonly known as Lotus. Flowers are open for three days and some change colors in that time. The height, foliage and blossom size differs between the varieties. They produce large, bluish-gray, peltate leaves, which stand above the water when full-grown; they range in width from 12 to 30 inches. These plants are great for planting in containers.

Hardy Water Lilies
Hardy water lily pads float on the water surface. Flowers float on or just above the surface of the water. Most flower all summer. Some are fragrant. All like water 6 - 18 inches over the soil. Be sure to increase water depth slowly. They do not do well in highly agitated water. Fertilize at least once per month with a fertilizer tablet in soil beside the lily. Winter-hardy where pond does not freeze solid. Zone 4.

We have common or unnamed lilies at a reduced price. Below is a partial list of the named lilies we presently offer.

Tropical Water Lilies

Tropical Water Lilies

These are the true 'Lilies of the Nile'. Similar to their hardy cousins, these lilies differ in richness of color and have highly toothed foliage. They prefer water temperatures to be over 80 degrees. It is not safe for the lily to be placed in water lower than 80 degrees, as it will kill the lily. Tropicial water lilies bloom all summer with flowers that stand erect 4-5" above the water. Overwinter indoors.
