Located on the southern edge of Northeast Iowa's rolling hills in the small community of Hawkeye, Iowa, this retail nursery has been referred to as a "must see" destination for every gardener.

Hawkeye is located approximately 25 miles southwest of Decorah, Iowa, 50 miles North of Waterloo, Iowa, 25 miles east of New Hampton, Iowa and 45 miles west of Marquette, Iowa.

Amsonia hubrichtii

Amsonia hubrichtii grows 36 inches tall and 36 inches wide in a mounded form. This hardy perennial grows in hardiness zones 4 through 9 and is a versatile North American native.

Amsonia offers a variety of features throughout the seasons. From late spring to early summer, two to three inch wide clusters of small, light blue, star-shaped flowers are borne above the ferny foliage. The alternate-arranged leaves are bright green in spring and summer, but turn a bright yellow-golden color in fall.

• Light - Plants thrive in full sun to partial shade
• Soil - This plant performs best in average, moist well-drained soil but tolerates less moisture. Once established, it can tolerate drier conditions.
• Uses - This perennial for the seasons is an asset in borders, native gardens, cottage gardens, or open woodland areas. It is best when massed. Arkansas blue star is attractive when mixed with ornamental grasses and plants that have attractive seed heads.
• Unique Qualities - Light blue flowers in spring are followed by marvelous foliage in summer. Golden-yellow fall color is second to none among herbaceous perennials.
• Hardiness - USDA Zones 4 to 9

Hosta Praying Hands, Hosta 'Praying Hands', is a fascinating new hosta with an unusual form that definitely makes it a collector's hosta. The upright, narrow, tightly folded leaves resemble hands folded in prayer. The folded leaves reveal the prominent veining on the back side of the leaves. 'Praying Hands' has dark green leaves and are also heavily rippled with a thin, gold margin. Displays lavender flowers in late summer. A must have for any gardener looking for something unique!

This low care perennial is ideal for shady positions. Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots. High-filtered or dappled sunlight is necessary for clean, healthy growth. Morning sun is tolerable and will help to intensify the leaf colors, but hot afternoon sun is usually deadly to hostas. They are most at home in shady, woodland settings and often work well as specimen or edging plants.
