Go Back Dwarf Fountain Grass

Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Hameln'
Deer Resistant IconRock Garden Icon

Plant Type: Grasses

More compact and shorter than the species, ‘Hameln’ has finely textured leaves that are especially lovely when back lit by the early morning or late afternoon sun.  Soft, greenish-cream colored panicles begin to appear in midsummer, a few weeks earlier than the species. This grass works most effectively in mass plantings, but also can be used as an accent plant in gardens.

An attractive grass highlighted by fluffy, buff-colored plumes that arch above the lush, green fountain of foliage. In the fall, the foliage turns a lovely golden russet color. Creates a terrific contrast when used among shrubs or as a backdrop in a perennial bed.

Growing & Maintenance Tips:

Pennisetum 'Hameln' prefers to be grown in rich loamy soil with good drainage and full sun. However, it will grow in rocky or sandy soil as long as it receives periodic moisture. This grass resents having wet feet.
